I have always been a “Go hard or go home” type of person. I have learned so many cool skills as well as done research on so many different topics to learn as much as possible before I get bored and move on. In my mid 20s I started hearing about a primarily Adhd term called “Hyperfocus” and as I learned more about it I realized that word describes my constant intense information gathering on different topics as well as my need to get really good at many different skills.
Hyperfocus also is known for a crash at the end which usually leads to needing a very long break from the task/topic while you recover from the lack of Dopamine (a brain chemical that affects many things including mood and motivation).
Ultimately hyperfocus to me is like a superpower because you can learn so many cool things but it has its own built in kryptonite.
It is not only the crash but the tendancy that during a hyperfocus it is harder to take care of yourself including drinking water because you are so focused on learning as much as you can that creates the downside.
I have learned so many amazing skills as well as a lot of really cool information. The problem is because I learn new things so frequently I also forget a lot of the previous information and skills. I also have friends who ask to be taught some of the skills and I thought I need a place I can document a lot of this information not only for me to refer back to but for other people who don’t want to research in a million different websites like I did during my hyperfocus.
